Jo Butcher BSc (hons), PGCE, Cert PTC
Jo is a kind and enthusiastic piano teacher who enjoys seeing her students learn and develop as players and musicians.
She has been playing the piano for over 35 years. At 14, she was awarded the Sheila Mossman Memorial Prize by ABRSM for achieving the highest mark in the country for Grade 6 piano, and she gained her Grade 8 two years later, before achieving an A grade in A Level music. After her undergraduate degree in psychology, Jo trained as a primary school teacher, with music as her subject specialism. She worked for three years as a class teacher at Newland St John's Primary School in Hull, becoming music co-ordinator and choir teacher. She began teaching piano in 2010 and loves it! Jo is a professional member of the European Piano Teachers' Association and attends conferences and courses to develop her teaching. She has completed EPTA's Piano Teaching Course, passing it with distinction. In 2012, she gave BBC Radio Humberside's Phil White six piano lessons as part of the BBC's Season of the Piano. Before her recent move to her hometown of Watford, she played twice a month for services at St Faith's Church in Dunswell, East Yorkshire. |
